In the Fall, after the Summer application process, we plan to start our first quarter at Qasid Arabic Institute in Amman, Jordan, where we will be furthering our Arabic education towards proficiency in spoken and written forms. This is a one year program that will prepare us for grad school and continued research of the Middle East.
Qasid is a preeminent institute of Arabic instruction where the US Department of State sends its foreign service officers for training. Because of Qasid's reputation as one of the most academically rigorous Arabic language programs in the Middle East, students from top-tier universities in the US make up the bulk of the student body.
To help us achieve these goals, we would appreciate those who would like to give us a wedding gift to instead make a donation towards our tuition fees. Here is a summary of some of our main expenses (from http://www.qasid.com/admission/pricing-and-payments/):
Tuition for 1 quarter, for 1 person: $2,320
Tuition for 1 year, for 1 person: $9,230
Cost of 1 hour of private tutoring for 2 people: $60
Cost of core textbooks (2) : $35 each
Supplementary courses (such as Arabic Media and Jordanian Dialect): between $200 - $300
If this is something you'd like to do, please bring a check donation to the reception; we will have a collection box available. Checks can be made out to Abe and Robyn Kaplan. If you can't make it to the party, but would still like to make a donation, checks can be sent to Scott Smigel (Robyn's dad) at 115 Hixon Rd, Santa Barbara, CA, 93108. Thank you so much, and we can't wait to see you in August!
